Hyperhidrosis Q & A
Is it normal to sweat excessively?
Yes, it can be all over (generalized), or localized to places like the under arms, hands, or feet. Sweating is one way our bodies regulate our internal temperature. All of our bodies are different and some produce more sweat than others. However, in certain situations, underlying medical conditions need to be ruled out.
Can sweating be treated?
Yes! There are several options ranging from localized medications for specific areas to systemic medications that treat all-over sweating. Prescription topical medications can help when over-the-counter antiperspirants aren't enough, and there are oral medications that are very effective but require counseling on side effects (like all systemic medications). Yes, neurotoxins like Botox are a treatment option, but they are not usually covered by insurance and can be painful which is why we do not currently offer this treatment at Absolute Dermatology.
How do I know if my sweating needs to be treated?
If episodes of excessive sweating are occurring for no clear reason and/or the excessive sweating is causing embarrassment effecting social life and daily activities, please reach out to the team at Absolute Dermatology & Skin Cancer Center to talk about your treatment options.
